Setting Up Outlook Express

These instructions are provided for clients of vengavenga who use our hosting service.
They may well work with other services, but you'll need to check the details with your host.

You may well already have an icon for Outlook Express on your desktop. If not, go to the "Start" menu of Windows and you should find it there. Start the program up. If you've never used it before, it will show you a "new account wizard" - close down that window and any others that it pops up until you are left with just the main window which looks something like this:



Next, click on the "Tools" menu at the top of the screen and select "Accounts" from it.



Click on the "Mail" tab on the new window that appears, then on the "Add" button and select "Mail" from the three options that it displays.



It'll now ask you for a "Display Name" - this is just your name or your company name as you'd like it to appear in the "from" section of emails.



Now enter the email address that you want to be able to check. If you have more than one email address that you'd like to set up, then you repeat this entire process from the beginning for each.



Make sure that the "incoming mail server is a" box says POP3, the enter the names of the incoming and outgoing mail servers that we've given you in your user guide.



On the next screen, enter the full email address that you are setting up as the "account name" and the the password that you've been provided with in the box below. To save you typing the password in each time you check mail, you can tick the "Remember Password" box.



Nearly done! Click on the finish button in window that appears ....



If you've finished adding accounts, you can click the "Close" button - If you have more to add, click the Add button and go back to this step



Check your mail by clicking on the "Send/Recv" button as shown below.
That's the basics set up, you can play around with the various options at a later date!
